Crystal and I must have been best friends in our past lives.
Typically, I meet with my clients for coffee before their wedding day but I was arranged to shoot Crystal and Jerry's wedding only a few weeks prior to their date, so I called Crystal to discuss the details over the phone. I admit, I was a little nervous to take on a wedding without meeting the bride and groom because I need to connect and befriend with my subjects on a personal level so that I can "let me in" and fully integrate myself into their day.
It took 30 seconds into my conversation with Crystal for me to know that I was "in".
We talked for almost an hour about everything--from baking scones to details from our pasts--with the ease of knowing someone for 100 years. Crystal has an amazing sense of humor and a heart of gold, so it was no surprise that she spent her day surrounded by friends and family who exuded the same salt of the earth goodness.
Crystal and Jerry held their wedding ceremony in their back yard near their friend's pond in Renshaw, PA. Sure, churches are great places to hold wedding ceremonies, but there is something so wholesome and nostalgic about backyard weddings. The only drawback was that it also happened to be the hottest day of the year. But looking at Crystal's beaming smile and gorgeous Maggie Sottero gown you never would have guessed it. She carried a bouquet of pink flowers that she made herself while Jerry and his groomsmen wore checkered ties as a nod to their love of Lernerville Speedway and the dirt track racing that is held every Friday night during the summer. The whole day ran smoothly thanks to the awesome husband and wife team of Tonya and Sean Edinger of Weddings of Pittsburgh.
Congratulations Crystal and Jerry! I'll be sure to catch you at Lernerville next summer--I'll bring the Starcrunch ;)
